Hassane El-Khoury became Cypress's second CEO in 2016, succeeding Cypress founder T.J. Roers. Soon after taking office, he introduced Cypress 3.0.

The strategy calls for delivering embedded system solutions -- a combination of MCU, wireless connectivity, analog, USB and memory products, combined with supporting software -- to the faster growing target markets across the semiconductor industry -- automotive, industrial and consumer.

Cypress 1.0, mainly memory; 2.0 era, began to make the on-chip programming system PSoC; In the 3.0 era, Cypress will transform from a technology company to a solutions company.

Cypress has seen several acquisitions in its history -- for example, the 2015 merger with Fairchild, the 2016 acquisition of Broadcom's Internet of Things unit, and the 2018 acquisition of software and cloud services provider Cirrent.

After these mergers and acquisitions, Cypress technology and products are increasingly rich, and the development of Cypress finally ushered in the day of acquisition by the giant.

On August 27, 2019, Infineon completed the 9 billion euro acquisition of Cypress, making it the eighth largest semiconductor company and the largest chip supplier in automotive electronics, following the market leader in power components and security chips.

Infineon bought Cypress, apparently because of its strength in the Internet of things, automotive and other areas. Cypress's MCU, connectivity, software/ecosystem will differentiate and complement Infineon's power devices, sensors and security businesses to provide stronger system-level solutions for the automotive, industrial and Internet of Things markets.
